​Columbia Music Entertainment Welcomes Tadahiko Hirose of @Nethome as New CEO


Company names information technology executive for digital music era

Columbia Music Entertainment Inc. (hereinafter CME; Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Executive Officer and President Masao Nakajima) today announced that Tadahiko Hirose, the President of broadband content provider @NetHome K.K. (hereinafter @NetHome; Head Office: Meguro-ku, Tokyo) will be joining CME as its new Representative Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with effect from January 1, 2004.

In accordance with this appointment, Strauss Zelnick will move from being Chairman of the Board of Directors, Representative Executive Chairman and CEO to being Chairman of the Board of Directors and Representative Executive Chairman. Mr. Hirose will report to Mr. Zelnick.

Mr. Hirose Joined IBM Japan in 1969, where he worked in the company's Financial Organization Development and then held the posts of Sales Office Manager in Charge of City Bank Sales, PR/Advertising Department Manager, Western Regional Sales Integrated Department Manager and Consumer Business Department Manager. He left IBM in 1996 and moved to ASCII, where he served successively as Managing Director and Executive Director.

In June 1998 he became the Representative Director and Vice President of Sega Enterprises. Then in October 1999 he joined @NetHome as its Representative Director and President.

In bringing aboard Mr Hirose, who has a superb record of experience in both the IT and consumer media sectors, CME has added a powerful new dimension to it management team. The company is aiming to further accelerate the pace of its growth and to move aggressively into the digital distribution of its content.

Under the revised management structure, the roles of each executive are sharply defined. Chairman Zelnick, who has a thorough knowledge of the US and global music business, will provide an expert presence as the Company develops its future Internet business, as well as its traditional business on a worldwide basis. Meanwhile, President and COO Nakajima will continue to pursue the creation of new hits and creative development as one of the best and most knowledgeable professionals in the Japanese music business.
