CME Names Acquisition Exec

Billboard Bulletin, 06.20.03
Frank Litsky

Columbia Music Entertainment (CME) has named Stanley Fertig to the newly created post of senior VP of acquisitions and business development. The appointment will be announced today. New York-based Fertig reports to chairman/CEO Strauss Zelnick.

Fertig was most recently CFO of British sports agency Media Content. Before that, as VP of Time Warner International, he developed German music TV channel Viva. As a VP at Warner Music Group, he helped launch Asian music station Channel V.

Tokyo-based CME recently restructured and reported its first annual operating profit in seven years (Bulletin, May 23). The company now has its eye on expansion. Fertig says CME will look to license its music more extensively in Asia and expand via acquisitions in Asia, the U.S. and Europe. "We're actively pursuing [deals]," he tells Bulletin.
